Dr. Markus Herderich

Dr Markus Herderich is Director of Research at The Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI). In addition, he is Affiliate Professor at the University of Adelaide; member of the executive management team of Metabolomics Australia; and an Expert at the Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin (OIV), where he was elected in 2022 as Vice-President.

Dr Herderich is a Chartered Food Chemist and holds a Dr (rer nat) and Dr (habil) from the University of Würzburg, Germany, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

His research interests focus on the identification of bioactive natural products and their formation, especially aroma compounds, their precursors and the regulation of secondary metabolism by biotic and environmental factors. He has authored or co-authored more than 130 peer-reviewed articles, reviews and proceedings papers in aroma chemistry, food chemistry, biological chemistry and natural products chemistry, analytical chemistry and metabolomics.
